Friday morning dawned with the subtlety of a jackhammer. I woke up with a hangover that felt like someone had replaced my brain with a bag of wet sand and my skull with a too-tight drum. I gulped down the painkillers and an entire liter of water, but the wreckage remained.
Creeping into the kitchen, I found Dal-mi. She was perched on a stool at the island, wearing nothing but one of Tae-min's oversized band t-shirts, her hair a glorious mess, and sipping a massive mug of coffee. She looked… thoroughly satisfied.
I shuffled over to the coffee machine, my movements slow and deliberate. "Had fun?" I asked, my voice gravelly.
Her head whipped around. Her face went from pale morning-after to tomato-red in half a second. "Mia!"
I managed a weak, wicked grin as I poured my own life-giving brew. "Sounded like he knows what he's doing. I remember you always complained that Jamie didn't ever… get you there. Is Tae at least able to put out your fire?" I giggled, the sound hurting my own head.
She buried her face in her hands for a moment, then peeked through her fingers. "We are all grown adults here," she muttered, then lowered her hands, a real, soft smile touching her lips. "And yes. He is. Everything I want and need in a man." Her expression turned more serious as she watched me slump into the chair opposite her. "Speaking of… don't you have a 'date' tonight?"
"It's not a date," I insisted automatically, cradling the warm mug. "We're just hanging out."
"Just be careful, Mia." Her voice was gentle but firm. "I want the world for Min-ho. He… he has a bit of a different side. Grew up hard. Had to build a fortress around himself. But that's not for me to tell you. He will never hurt you, if that's what you're worried about. That much, I can promise."
The sincerity in her words warmed me more than the coffee. "I know," I said quietly. And I realized I did believe it, on a bone-deep level. The man in the garden, the man who offered his hand, was not the man who would cause harm.
"I have to get ready," Dal-mi said, hopping off the stool. "I was tasked with a very important job that the boss wants done before the end of the day. I will have Tae drop you off when you're ready."
He was early.
I was just putting the final touches on my makeup—a simple, smoky eye and a bold lip to match the little black dress I'd chosen, one that was short, sleek, and made me feel powerful—when Jae-won's voice came through the intercom. "Mr. Lee is here, Miss."
I grabbed my clutch and headed down. When I stepped out of the lobby doors, I stopped short.
Min-ho was leaning against the driver's side door of a car that looked like a panther sculpted from liquid silver and shadow. A 2026 Aston Martin Vantage S. It was low, wide, and hummed with restrained violence. But it was the man himself who stole my breath.
Gone was the impeccable three-piece suit. He was wearing black jeans that fit him like a second skin and a black button-down shirt, the top two buttons undone, the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. The casual attire revealed a landscape I hadn't known existed: tattoos. Intricate, dark ink wrapped around his forearms, disappearing under the rolled fabric—geometric patterns, what looked like script in a language I didn't recognize, and the sharp lines of a predator's jaw.
He pushed off the car, a slow, easy smile touching his lips as he saw me. The smile reached his eyes, which held a different, more relaxed intensity tonight.
"Nice car," I managed, walking towards him. "And ink. I thought this was a casual… outing."
He chuckled, a low, warm sound. "This is my casual car." He opened the passenger door for me with a flourish. "We're going for a drive. I booked us a table. Then afterwards, we're going dancing. I have some tension I need to release, and you in that dress…" His gaze swept over me, appreciative and hot. "Who wouldn't want to show you off? Get in."
I slid into the soft leather seat, the door closing with a solid thunk. As he got in beside me, the small space filled with his scent—sandalwood, clean cotton, and something uniquely, dangerously male.
"I didn't know you had tattoos," I said as he guided the car into the flow of traffic.
"I don't always show them off," he said, his eyes on the road. "This is the younger me. Reckless. Angry. Marking the skin to match what I felt inside. But they're part of me, I do keep my appearance top-notch at work." He glanced at me, a sly, challenging glint in his eye. "I do have more. But you'll either have to get me in a pool, catch me without my shirt, or get me naked."
My cheeks flushed with a heat that had nothing to do with the car's climate control. I looked out the window to hide my smile. "Well, I think it's hot. The ink, I mean."
The drive was a dream. He took us up the winding roads towards Namsan Tower, the city lights sprawling below us like a spilled jewel box. The meal at the exclusive, glass-walled restaurant was exquisite, the conversation easy, flowing from art to travel to stupid, funny things. He was a surprisingly good listener, his focus entirely on me.
Then the club. It was a place of throbbing bass and laser lights, a temple of hedonism. He led me to a reserved VIP section overlooking the dance floor. After a drink, he took my hand. "Dance with me."
On the floor, surrounded by the pulsing energy, he pulled me close, his hands settling on my hips from behind. We moved together, my back against his chest, his body a solid, rhythmic wall of heat behind me. I let my head fall back against his shoulder, closing my eyes, lost in the music and the sensation of being held, of being wanted. I felt amazing. Invincible.
During a slower moment in the song, his lips brushed my ear. "Mia."
"Hmm?"
"If you could pick anyone here tonight. Anyone at all. Who would it be?"
The question was so unexpected it pulled me out of the trance. I turned my head slightly to look at him. "You'd be my first pick."
He smiled but shook his head. "I'm flattered. But I don't count. I'm already here. Look around. Tell me who else."
Confused, I scanned the crowd. My gaze landed on a man near the bar. He was tall and blond, with sharp, almost androgynous features. He wore a tight black tank top that showed off lean, sculpted arms adorned with a vibrant, intricate tattoo of a scorpion that looked like it had leaped from the pages of a manga. He was beautiful in a dangerous, otherworldly way.
"I… I do like the blond over there," I said quietly, nodding subtly in his direction. "With the scorpion tattoo. He looks like he just jumped out of an anime."
Min-ho followed my gaze. He studied the man for a long moment, his expression unreadable. Then he leaned in again, his voice dropping to a low, intimate murmur that cut through the music, meant for my ears only.
"Do you trust me?"
The question hung in the air between us, heavy with implication. I looked into his eyes, seeing no judgment, only a fierce, protective intensity. "Yes," I whispered. It was the truth.
"I will not let anything happen to you know that. I need you to allow someone to be able to pleasure you. And it can't be me. Not yet." He held my gaze, his own serious. "That is a conversation for another day. Right now… I want you to think of your pleasure. This is about trust. About reclaiming your body on your own terms, with someone who is just… a beautiful instrument. No strings. No expectations. And I will be right here. The whole time. Watching. Making sure."
My heart was pounding against my ribs, a frantic drum. The idea was insane. Terrifying. Exhilarating.
"Allow him to pleasure you," Min-ho continued, his voice a hypnotic command. "Tell him no strings attached. And when you say stop, it's stop. That's the only rule. Your rule."
He took my hand, his grip firm and sure. "Do you want to?"
I looked back at the beautiful blond stranger, then at Min-ho, the anchor in my storm. This was madness. But it was a madness offered with more care and understanding than any "normal" date I'd ever been on. It was about control. My control.
I took a deep, shaking breath. The music pulsed around us, a soundtrack to the precipice.
"Yes," I said.
